Milking the Cows
04:22
|
|
||
“Early to rise the sun not risen
Waking to the rooster singin’
Out the door and through the lawn
I meet my grandpa in the barn
I sit down next to him as he milks the cows
Enjoying this time in the here and now
This time is special bonding time
For someday he will no longer be around
Chores seem like fun when I’m with gramps
The cows are dry for now time for some steak and eggs.”

Steak & Eggs
02:27

“Coming in from the barn and smell something amazing
The smell is familiar it smells like meat braising
Hungry from chorin’ early in the morning
On this old mountainside farm it never gets boring
Scrambled eggs and some steak, a classic here in this home
Filling and hearty to keep us all going
I eat with fresh milk and my grandpa drinks coffee
Finish my breakfast now time for a toffee
Plates all clean, wash my dishes and go
There will be time to rest when we see the first snow...”

Hot Summer Day
07:57
|
|
||
“No time to play on this hot summer day
Here we are outside in the fields chorin’ away
From feeding the chickens to tending to crops
The days seem much longer when they are hot
Grandpa needs help as he grows older in age
His hair used to be red but now full of grays
Homemade lemonade is our only relief
It’s these simple pleasures that keep us going, I believe...”

Herding Sheep
04:34
|
|
||
“The hot midday sun has almost done past
Tis almost time to just lay in the grass
Up on the hill where we tend to the sheep
My favorite of chores, oh yes indeed
Just my Grandpa and I herding them calmly
With the sun going down it finally gets balmy
The sheep are so meek and just do what their told
Possibly because half the herd’s growing old
They trust in my grandpa and seem calmed by his voice
The sheep are now happy within the mountains at once...”

Supper Time
02:50
|
|
||
“Once again, time for another rhyme
For after a long day of chores finally comes supper time
Lamb with some thyme and potatoes and beans
Grandpa always making sure we eat greens
A well balanced diet to keep us both well
I can see he is aging, but to him I never would tell
He’s worked hard as an ox for many a year
Every once in a while enjoys a cold beer
We sit down and eat in quiet and peace
It really couldn’t get better than this
Rain starts to fall now, a storm’s rolling in
A real cozy night is about to begin.”

“After supper comes time to relax
Gramps in his favorite chair tending to his back
The will to stop working is something he lacks
We listen to music softly on his turntable
Songs of the countryside, stories and fables
The candles flickering make pictures to the tunes
It couldn’t be cozier in this little room
I finally make my way up to my bed
For now it is time for me to rest my head
I think of the day and the fun that we had
It makes me feel warm, content and glad
I really love spending time with my dear ol’ grandad...”
